Blog Post 9: REFLECTIONS ON PRESENTATIONS BY THREE STUDENTS

REFLECTIONS: 1) PRESENTATION BY OLUWASEUN OYEKOLA: Working title: Using Google Classroom to Facilitate Collaborative Construction of Knowledge in a Final Year Class Prof. Oyekola put together a wonderful presentation. He pulled everything together nicely. His integrated version of the garden metaphor using Cole’s (2002) garden metaphor and Herrington’s (2010) authentic learning was articulated very well. He might want to refine the research questions to align more with authentic contexts. It influenced my thoughts on how the garden metaphor and authentic learning tasks are integrated and how they fit into the course that we are doing. Quote from his presentation: “Teaching and learning do not take place in isolation. Interactions lead to content development.” 2) PRESENTATION BY MANDLA MHLONGO: Working title: Development of online glossary for the field of electrical engineering Mr. Mhlongo are proposing to address a real-life challenge which I as an undergraduate ...

Blog Post 7: PROPOSAL PRESENTATION ON 04 MAY 2020

COMMENTS ON RAMBE & NG’AMBI (2011): • The paper analyzed the role of Facebook in mediating information sharing among students who assume interchanging roles of informers and clients. • “Clients are invited by “Informers” to become friends. • It also describes the characteristics of facebook as an informing network. • The literature review comprises an historical outlook on the creation of facebook as well as its transformation as an educational platform. • The Activity system is of a Cultural Historical Activity Theory (CHAT) that is based upon Engeström’s (1999, 2001) principles of Activity System. • In summary, Engeström (1999) proposes that the Activity theory can be analytically summarized by five principles namely, activity system, multivoicedness, historicity, critical role of contradictions, and expansive transformations /learning. • This study employed an ethnographic case study approach. INFLUENCE OM MY IDEAS FOR THE PROPOSED PAPER: • The general use of...

Blog Post 1 : Element 8 of Authentic Learning

Task : ‌ Herrington et al (2010) outlines 9 elements of Authentic learning environments. You will be paired to tackle one element per pair. Using both the reading and carefully watching Harrington's video for the specific element on http://authenticlearning.info/AuthenticLearning/Home.html ‌ For each element (teach the class - you will choose how you do this but to be shared on the Padlet): ‌ a). Discuss the element in your own words b). Drawing from your own context/discipline, develop a detailed example of how the element can be achieved.
