Blog Post 9: REFLECTIONS ON PRESENTATIONS BY THREE STUDENTS

REFLECTIONS:

1) PRESENTATION BY OLUWASEUN OYEKOLA:

Working title: Using Google Classroom to Facilitate Collaborative Construction of Knowledge in a Final Year Class

Prof. Oyekola put together a wonderful presentation. He pulled everything together nicely. His integrated version of the garden metaphor using Cole’s (2002) garden metaphor and Herrington’s (2010) authentic learning was articulated very well. He might want to refine the research questions to align more with authentic contexts. It influenced my thoughts on how the garden metaphor and authentic learning tasks are integrated and how they fit into the course that we are doing.

Quote from his presentation:
“Teaching and learning do not take place in isolation. Interactions lead to content development.”

2) PRESENTATION BY MANDLA MHLONGO:

Working title: Development of online glossary for the field of electrical engineering

Mr. Mhlongo are proposing to address a real-life challenge which I as an undergraduate Electrical Engineering student at CPUT struggled with in my first year can relate to, especially since my home language is Afrikaans. The focus will be on advancing academic literacy of first year students in the field of Electrical Engineering. Blogger will be used to create the glossary. The object will be a glossary of words and online collaborative knowledge sharing. Blogging and e-mailing will be the technology used. It influenced my thoughts in the sense that academic knowledge sharing lies not only in the academic language that is used, but also in the thorough understanding of concepts within the academic framework.

Quote from his presentation:
“Creation of online glossary of words and online knowledge sharing.”

3) PRESENTATION BY STELLA NGEH:

Working Title: Impact of covid-19 on UCT library services: using Vula site for teaching and learning

Ms. Ngeh are proposing to address the impact that COVID-19 has on UCT library services. Looking at UCT library as a knowledge hub, but because of the current COVID-19 situation, the support has moved online. The library system has been transformed. All students have been accommodated. Students need to have laptops and internet connections to connect to VULA. Students are encouraged to make proper use of the Vula site and make use of all affordances on Vula. Collaboration with fellow students. Library staff to train students on the use of Vula. It influenced my ideas of online collaboration during this time of lockdown due to the Coranavirus.

Quote from her presentation:
“The Vula site is real and relevant because of the situation that we are facing due to COVID-19.”
